Cosmetic Dentistry Services
A person’s teeth can have a significant impact on their confidence and their lives. Naturally, when people meet or talk face to face, we are often drawn to two things – the eyes and mouth, and for those who are self-conscious about their teeth, smiling or talking to people can be something they dread or even avoid. This can affect people’s ability to be confident at work, meet new people or communicate in an effective way.
Cosmetic dentistry is about so much more than just improving the appearance of teeth, it is about giving patients the confidence they need and a smile that will have them grinning from ear to ear!
We offer a variety of affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures to help improve the colour, shape and layout of the teeth from whitening, veneers and composite bonding to crowns and bridges.
One of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments, teeth whitening, is the ideal solution for patients who want to improve the colour of their teeth for a brighter, whiter smile.
Discolouration can happen for a number of reasons from lifestyle choices to genetics and age. There are two types of tooth discolouration called extrinsic and intrinsic which usually call for different treatments.
- Intrinsic discolouration occurs when the dentin, which is the inner part of the tooth turns yellow or darkens in colour. This can be resolved with teeth whitening treatments such as bleaching.
- Extrinsic discolouration is a type of staining on the enamel or outer layer of the teeth, caused by things such as tea and coffee, smoking and red wine. This is often best treated with professional cleaning and hygienist treatments in conjunction with whitening where required.
At Advent Dental, our teeth whitening treatment is a type of bleaching which is extremely effective and helps to whiten, reduce staining and improve decolouration for a sparkling smile. We use custom fit trays that can be worn at home for convenient, easy to achieve results that take around 10-14 applications and can last as long as 3 years if maintained properly.
Composite bonding is a minimally invasive treatment that helps to improve the appearance of the teeth through the use of carefully moulded resin – ideal for teeth with cracks, chips or discolouration. Our expert dentists use this tooth coloured composite material to change the shape or length of teeth, contour, close gaps and improve discoloration for fast, effective, natural results that our patients love!
Some of the many benefits of composite bonding include;
- Results can be achieved in just a single appointment.
- Minimally invasive and in most cases requires no aesthetic, injections or drilling – unless it is being used to treat a filling.
- Fully modifiable and reversible so that it can be adjusted and stripped back if required at any point.
- Suitable for patients of all ages.
- A cheaper alternative to crowns and veneers.
Crowns and Bridges
For our patients with weakened, damaged or missing teeth we are able to offer long lasting, effective treatment in the form of crowns and bridges which not only help to improve the appearance of the teeth but helps to restore function and overall oral health.
- Dental Crowns
These are used in a number of ways to help permanently cover damaged, discoloured and weak teeth for which some of the tooth remains and not all of it has to be removed. They can also be effectively combined with other treatments to help provide a long term solution for complex dental issues.
Typically made from porcelain, plastic, ceramic or metal alloys, a crown can be used to artificially restore the remaining part of the damaged tooth, giving it a protective ‘cap’ which reinforces and aesthetically improves the tooth.
- Dental Bridge
For patients with one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge can be used to ‘bridge the gap’. There are different types of bridges available and the type that is used will depend on the individual patient and their teeth.
The most common bridge treatment involves a false tooth, secured into place with the help of two dental crowns which anchor the new tooth to the adjacent teeth on either side of the gap.
Veneers are ultra-thin, layers of porcelain or composite that are custom made and bonded to the front surface of the original tooth or teeth using a special adhesive.
They can be used to:
- Cover imperfect teeth
- Close gaps between teeth
- Mask discoloured teeth
- Lengthen teeth
Veneers can be used to treat just one single tooth or several teeth at once, providing patients with a natural, healthy looking smile. Having veneers is often irreversible because the treatment can require a small amount of the outer layer of the tooth to be shaved down, so you need to be absolutely sure before undergoing the treatment.
